The Sumas family are the owners of Village Supermarket. The manager is Ali Sumas The Sumas realized the benefits of operating under one unified and recognizable name. ShopRite is dedicated to helping customers and communities thrive. With the threat of food insecurity and to help families. ShopRite was founded Perry Suma and Nicholas Suma is also a large South African retailer that is mainly focused on the sales of food which they are also known for their affordable prices and their wide range of products. ShopRite operates across multiple countries with a core mission which is to provide lost cost groceries to customers that have different income levels.
Through the past years ShopRite has consistently grown its presence and influence. This was not only achieved through its physical stores but also through its online shopping platforms. As they have embraced technological advancements, the company has made grocery shopping more convenient for its customers. In addition to that, ShopRite established itself as a responsible organization (socially), as they actively engage in community outreach programs and sustainability acts/initiatives. Efforts include partnerships with local farmers, waste reduction strategies, and campaigns to combat hunger. Through its commitment to affordability and innovation, ShopRite without a doubt positioned itself as a trusted name in the retail industry, ensuring it remains a staple in the lives of the communities it serves.
This blog focuses on how ShopRite uses its management information system (MIS) to support daily store operations, based on insights from an interview with an assistant store manager. It examines how the MIS contributes to inventory management, customer service, and employee coordination, while identifying key strengths and areas for improvement. The goal is to recommend targeted enhancements to improve efficiency and sustain ShopRite’s competitive edge.
Thesis
This project aims to evaluate and improve ShopRite’s Management Information System (MIS) by analyzing its role in store operations and business strategy. Through interviews and a review of the current MIS software, the project will identify operational inefficiencies and propose targeted improvements to enhance efficiency, streamline processes, and improve the overall customer experience.
